Back/Queen's Golden Jubilee

The London String of Pearls, Golden Jubilee Festival

Synopsis:
As part of the Queen's Golden Jubilee in 2002, the London String of Pearls festival celebrates London's heritage and attractions. Over 80 well-known participants featured ranging from The Tower of London and Westminister to the London Institute and botanical gardens. The project had a number of requirements:
  • Branded visual identity and total-compatibility interface.
  • Dynamic calendar application listing over 10,000 events.
  • Dedicated press section.
Solutions:

Creative Services:
Working closely with The String of Pearls, Ultima Group's creative directors worked on assessing exact requirements and developing prototypes. The final design was then produced as a flatfile site, passed to Ultima's technology teams (see later) to engineer.

Technology Solutions:
A proprietary application was developed to populate a database from spreadsheets and other information sources. Ultima Group utilised an "in-build" test system together with application load testing to analyse how the site would behave under extreme load. A secure hosting & reporting platform was then planned and deployed, again load tested before release. The final site sustained, without any downtime, well over 1 million visitors per month (more than 2million at its peak). Extensive compatibility testing also ensured the site was univerally accessible.

PR/Marketing:
Ultima Group carefully monitored the world press (online and offline) assessing coverage given to the festival, compiling a media library for the festival organisers to assess and compare against web statistics.
